Trauma isn’t always one single event.

Trauma can build over time and have a lasting impact on how you view yourself, interact with others, and navigate the world. The effects might appear as anxiety, depression, perfectionism, overthinking, or feeling like you’re constantly in "survival mode."

EMDR helps your brain process traumatic memories so they feel like part of the past, not something you keep reliving on repeat.

What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a powerful, evidence-based therapy that supports healing from both major traumas and the quieter, chronic wounds of everyday life. It helps your brain and body reprocess past experiences so they no longer feel as overwhelming or emotionally charged.

Through this process, you can begin to release the emotional and physical tension tied to past experiences, allowing you to feel more present, grounded, and in control of your life. It’s a gentle but powerful way to address the root of pain rather than just manage the symptoms.

What to Expect in EMDR Therapy:

Creating Safety

Before we begin reprocessing, we’ll focus on helping you build a strong foundation. This means developing tools and strategies to help you feel grounded, calm, and in control. These skills are essential for keeping your nervous system regulated as we begin to explore more difficult material.

Identifying the Target Memory

When you're ready, we’ll gently identify a memory or experience that continues to feel heavy or emotionally charged. Together, we’ll explore the thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations connected to it, allowing us to understand how it’s affecting you in the present and begin the process of healing.

Reprocessing using Bilateral Stimulation

Next, we’ll use bilateral stimulation—gentle eye movements, tapping, or sound—to help your brain reprocess the memory. This technique supports your nervous system in integrating the experience in a way that feels less overwhelming and more manageable. As we revisit the memory, its emotional intensity may begin to soften and its hold on you will begin to fade.

Noticing the Shift

After each session, many people feel a subtle—or sometimes significant—shift. The memory may still be there, but it no longer carries the same emotional charge. You may feel calmer, more grounded, and better equipped to face life with confidence, clarity, and self-compassion.

EMDR for Trauma

Together, we’ll gently explore what you’ve been through, at whatever pace feels comfortable to you. We will identify how trauma has impacted your thoughts, emotions, relationships, and sense of self.

Using a trauma-informed approach and modalities like EMDR, we’ll help your nervous system settle and begin to release what no longer serves you. You will start to reconnect with your inner strength and build the resiliency to move forward with safety.
